I was online a couple of days ago when a friend was asking me what I was up to at that moment. I told them that I was downloading some music and when I was asked what I was listening to I was told "Oh! Oldies!" OLDIES????? When did Bobby Brown, New Kids On The Block, Blue Oyster Cult, and Heart (just to name a few) become oldies! Had I fallen asleep under a tree somewhere and woke up to a world gone mad!!!!!!
I mean I don't have the grey streaks yet(Firey red actually). Have actually looked for some with hope(Actually looking forward to that moment. Crazy! Huh?) I have a few laugh lines but I wouldn't get rid of them for a million years. They are a symbol of all the good times I have spent laughing and talking with friends. That I wouldn't change in a million years. I have a faint sign of the elevens but I am in denial about those (If an eleven forms on your forehead and u refuse to see it does it truly exist?)
Overall I am pretty secure in getting older. The truth be known it's hard for my mind to see myself in such a light. I feel most days as if I am a little kid playing grown up. I keep waiting for my mother to say "Okay...play time over. Time for a nap." Then my son calls my name or a true adult issue comes up and BOOM!!!! Reality sets in.
I will admit I am not where I want to be in life but I am still a work in progress. Always will be as far as I am concerned. I still do most of the same things I did when I was younger. I laugh as free as I once did. I still enjoy the beauty around me. I still give of myself with a child like innocences at times. Granted I can't stay up all night and then go to work the next day like I did in my teens without being ready to crash by five. I can't ride my bike for miles and miles and then still take on the world without feeling it in every muscle. Still I embrace being this me as much as I embraced the younger more energized me.
So I guess next time I am told my beloved tunes are seen as oldies I will just giggle like I aalways do and just say" Not in my mind" and leave it at that for here on out...D.A.
